Karina Loraine Salang Dela Cruz

I've been thinking of starting a "I am proud of" series on this  blog about the people I know and love. Plus, I think if ever someone would Google their name, it would be nice to find a blog  bout them saying only good things and how lovely of a person they are. So I thought, it would be nice to share to the world the gift of persons in my life. But basically its just because I think that everyone deserves to be recognized for the good things that they are. Success, whether great or menial relative in society's eyes, is still success - it should be celebrated all the same. So, for my first entry I would like to talk about my wonderful beshie Mrs. Karina Loraine Salang Dela Cruz. This is also timely, since today is her birthday! Why am I proud of Karina? I am proud of her not only because she's my best friend but  more importantly because I admire her. Karina and I have been friends for the longest time. We've be

A Fairy Tale Ending for My Hair-Scapades

Generation X, the generation which faced great transitions. Yes, I am a 1990's kid. I am a part of the generation that was still able play outside and get myself dirty. A part of the generation that first explored tech-y devices and game consoles. Transitions and changes were and still are inevitable. So, what do I really want to talk about? Nope. I am not going to rant about how the kids of today's generation should also play outside and all that. I'm simply going to talk about my hair. LOL. Yes, how I found my way back home - embracing my natural waves. SPOILER ALERT: YOU ARE ABOUT TO VIEW A SERIES OF VAIN PHOTOS. BACK OUT NOW IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT. :)) Like everyone else, I started off bald. LOL. My hair has been through practically anything and everything you can think off. My hair was naturally straight. It was long and shiny - shampoo commercial caliber. Like any little child's hair up until hormones kick in and ruin

D.I.Y. Project: Monster Bookmark

It is only now that I found time to post my escapades during the six month "exile" [as I would like to refer to it] of the review for the Architecture board exam.  This post is about this instant crafting adventure I had in the midst of studying. I made Monster Bookmarks! I was browsing instagram #diy for craft ideas that I can do after the board exam and I stumbled upon a photo of a monster bookmark. It was super cute! I checked out the comments if there are any tutorials on how to make them, but sadly there were none. In the end, I tried to make one using my own awesome self and ingenuity.  The screen shot of the monster bookmark from an instagram post on the left and my own version of the monster bookmark is the one on the right. I posted this photo on my instagram account, and I got a tutorial request! For fun and amusement, I made a simple photo tutorial on how to make the monster bookmark and posted it on instagram. On this blog, I

Wellmanson's: Crafter's Haven

If you are a person who enjoys D.I.Y. crafty and bauble projects and you are in the far flung regions of the Philippines and wondering where to get those connectors, charms, strings, ropes, ribbons, and beads it is time to look no further. This post will surely help you! As a craft-er [i just made that word up] myself I found my self in that hey-i-want-to-make-that-thingy-but-i-don't-know-where-to-buy-that-material situation. For those who felt the same way, this artistic frustration can really be annoying at times. Where you go to your local craft supplies store and realize how limited the supplies in you area are - in may case my hometown is in Davao City. Then if the thingy you want IS in stock, you get all excited and think 'Oh, yeah!' then when you look at the overpriced value written on the price tag you go 'Oh, shoot!' I haven't done any D.I.Y.s for a long time though when I was  in Manila for the six months review for the arc

Pretty Red Velvet Cupcakes

My boyfriend loves red velvet cupcakes. So, I decided to make some for his 24th Birthday as a surprise!   It took me a while to look for that perfect red velvet recipe that suits me. My criteria was that it should be (1) Easy, (2) Inexpensive and (3) having locally available ingredients. There are a lot of recipes online and there are deceitful recipes that are labeled 'easy' but are relatively not. The recipe I used to make my delightful red velvety treats was from My Food Notebook.     A blog that also features other fun and easy recipes. I followed the recipe for the cake batter to the detail. RED VELVET: CAKE BATTER RECIPE  3 cups all-purpose flour 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder ¾ tsp salt 3 large eggs, at room temperature ¾ cup butter, at room temperature 2¼ cups granulated sugar 1½ tsp vanilla extract 1 ounce bottle of red food coloring (2 Tbsp.) 1½ cups buttermilk* 1½ tsp baking soda 1½ tsp vinegar For the procedure, sim

When I'm Gone (Cups) by Anna Kendrick

So, I got in a little late with the Pitch Perfect fever because I was in semi-cyber-hibernation mode for the entire six months of reviewing for the Architecture board exam. I really enjoyed the movie and I  was really fascinated with the 'cups' singing feat performed by Beca (Anna Kendrick) in the movie. Finally, found the time try to learn it. Here is my version of When I'm Gone (Cups) by Anna Kendrick I'm not really sure if my hand movements are exactly the same with how Anna Kendrick did it in the movie but here is a short guide for those who might want to give it a try as well. *Clap *Clap *Tap *Tap *Tap [on the inverted cup] *Clap *Move *Cup [to the right] *Clap [Pick up inverted cup with left hand, and] *Tap [the right-side-up rim of the cup on right palm] *Tap [the bottom of the cup on the table or floor] [Pick up the cup with the right hand and invert it upside down as you] *Tap [your left palm on the table or floor]

Good Friday 2013

Woot-woo! I'm creating a new blog post again. I am definitely on a roll! I just got back from  Shrine of the Holy Infant of Jesus of Prague located at  Shrine Hills, Matina, Davao City. This has been a family tradition observed by many of the catholic church-goers here in Davao City. The entire Shrine Hills road is closed off during the Holy Week to accommodate thousands of pilgrims. The devotees relive the way of the cross in reflective prayer trekking up from the  foot of Shrine Hills and offer prayers or candles for each station. I look forward to this every year because it is also 'family time'. Way way back, when my Lola Lita was still alive we would wake up very early to avoid the scorching heat of the sun during this pilgrimage walk. But this year, we came a little later than the usual 5:00-6:00 am-ish call time. We arrived at the foot of Shrine hills at around 6:58 am. So, avoiding the blazing hot summer sun was inevitable.
